bonus dilemma

bonus dilemma

Hi, I'm planning to resign and have already accepted another offer (signing contract within the next few days). The new contract speculates partial compensation for the annual bonus i would be losing due to resignation. Now my current company decides to pay bonuses early and i'm in a position where i could receive the bonus from my current company, leave on the same day and, theoretically, get the bonus from the new employer. The new employer will inevitably find out that our company paid out bonuses (these things get around) and I don't want to appear like I was lying to them. Am considering telling them re early bonus payment and asking to keep contract conditions the same (ie I still get the "sign-on bonus" (as they call it in my new contract, though implicitly it's a buyout of the bonus from the old company). Having moral/ethics related issues here. what do you all think? TOo greedy or "when in rome..."? Thank you!

It's just my opinion but I think that since when you start a new job you have no employment protection for 12 months, I wouldn't want anything to get in the way of completing those 12 months!
